Jean-Paul Forceville participates in the inauguration of the exhibition on French-speaking philately

As part of the Semaine de la Francophonie 2023, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) organized a philatelic exhibition on its premises, highlighting the richness of the French language and Francophone cultures.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of UPU leaders and representatives of local and diplomatic authorities.

The exhibition featured a selection of rare and unique stamps, highlighting key moments in the history of French-speaking countries as well as outstanding personalities who have contributed to the influence of the French language. Creative workshops and conferences were organized around the event for pupils of the International French School of Bern (EFIB) and the Cantonal French Language School of Bern (ECLFB).

During the inauguration, Jean-Paul Forceville and the representative of the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations underlined the role of the French language, spoken by more than 300 million people around the world, as a vector of cultural identity and diversity. They also recalled the values of La Francophonie, which promotes solidarity, democracy and human rights.

In his speech, Jean-Paul Forceville expressed his gratitude to the UPU for its constant support for the Francophonie and more generally for cultural and linguistic diversity.
