Jean-Paul Forceville, President of PostEurop, was invited by UPS to participate in a panel alongside ERGP (European Group of Postal Regulators) and E-Commerce Europe to discuss the future of the regulatory framework for postal services in the European Union. He pointed out that postal operators had lost a large part of their letter volumes over the last decade, that this trend would continue and that this raised the question of the financing of universal service obligations. While the health crisis has led to a rediscovery of the need for postal services, he advocated a flexible and measured regulatory framework, rejecting the approach of a total rewriting of the directive.
